First off: New icon.

Okay. Writing-wise, I have achieved *something* since September.

1 challenge fic = done.

chapters 7 & 8 of 524 = done.

next chapter of 4XiaolinPast = half done

hell-load of research on the 5th and 6th centuries AD, also known as 'Northern Wei Dynasty', also known as 'The Wandering Times' also known as 'That time when the Western Roman Empire was dead but the Eastern (Byzantine) Roman Empire was still hanging on' = attempted

... Let's concentrate on the first two, eh? I just updated 524 like, 5 seconds ago. The chapter is the length of the last two put together. It's good. Yes.

Even though I'm not doing school work, something has been done!

EDIT: WTF is with http://europe.fanfiction.net (and by extension, asia.fanfiction.net)? It's supposed to be faster for us Euro-ficcers, but it takes like half an hour to load the homepage.

And of course, as soon as I check the XS front page for my fic-update-appearanceness, I point at the screen and go 'OMG!Scribberfangirllypuddle!' and open the two (two!) one-shots she's posted - except one of them sends me to YouTube, so I get even fangirllyer over the DWCG-era and watch the vid like three times...

So it's now an hour, no, two, after I started writting this. *needs sleep*

Oh, and I probably shouldn't say such things the day after New Year's, when y'all are thinking 'Right, Tamar, we know that there's a lot of leftover alcohol in your house now, but did you have to?', but it needs to be said:

Most of you got friended by me because you write well. Fic-wise or blog-wise or both-wise, the ability to put your ideas forward in a coherent manner (if not an entertaining or poetic manner), is the mark of intelligence when working on a text-based medium such as the web.

As such, you all know how to use a comma. That isn't the important thing. The thing is: you've got to know what a comma is for. It's common to find long run-on sentences that make you mentally hold your breath, even in good!fic. They can be used for comic effect in the right circumstance - a character is more focussed on her diatribe then her breathing, for example, or on her mental train more than her physical self - but in the majority of cases?

Not knowing why you aren't using a comma ('I've heard of them! The Cambridge comma. That's bad - you shouldn't have a comma after the last item of a list. Um. *remove*') is as bad as not knowing why you are.

There's more to punctuation than correct use. There's a reason for it. If you have a huge run-on sentence like this with no commas or semicolons or something to tell the reader to take a breath when they need to because the reader is probably a human being with oxygen needs such as the one being denied by this huge run-on sentence sorry for being drunk and doing this wrong by the way (comma breath), your readers will get disgruntled and backbutton.

Unless they don't care. In which case, they're reading what they want to see instead of what's actually there, anyway.
I'm going back up to York tomorrow for Open Day and 'one-on-one chat', whatever that means. And then on the 12th I have my Cambridge Interview (had another practise for that today... I still use too many fill-words, but at least I've thought of answers to 'if we asked a friend of yours, what would they say your main strengths and weaknesses are?')

Also, I fail at plurals.

Got to get up at 4AM tomorrow... *groan*

Oh, and I've got an offer from Warwick - three As. But they don't do post-application Open Days, so it'll probably get rejected.

As a run-down: Warwick = 360pts, York = A in phys+maths and either B in Chem or A in AS Further Maths, Nottingham = 340pts, Hull = 300pts with B in Chem. St.A and Cam haven't said yet.

Also, pimping: http://community.livejournal.com/chase_omi/8717.html?view=58125#t58125 - The First Annual Chase/Omi anon ficathon! 500-1500 words, 20 days. It's not difficult!
The Xiaolin Showdown Rare-Pairs Community

Yes, I made a proper rarepairs community this time - for mSlash, fSlash, het, gen and smarm. Don't worry how 'out there' your crack OTP is - there's bound to be someone who's been after a bit of the same thing.

The idea was spawned by conversations with [livejournal.com profile] silvarbelle and [livejournal.com profile] aldrius over MSN last night, and I've been working on the userinfo for the past 5 hours or so. Disproportionate? Maybe, but I want this to succeed.

So come on over and enjoy yourselves! *shooes people over to the community*

ZOMG since when was there a pr0n comm for XS? And why did no one tell me?!

You know...

My fandom life has been relatively long, but I've still managed to entertain the delusion that the people I know in a certain fandom were there with me since the beginning, and managed to follow on and keep up. That blatently isn't true.

Of the people on that very first hyperboard BB, I believe that I am still in touch, somehow, with about six of the seven. I had discovered ff.net through the Teen Titans fandom at TvTome, and suddenly the entirety (or so I thought, then) of my new, titcher of a fandom was there posting. Haunted Flower got me into Slash (Rai/Jack was actually the first ever slash pairing that I ever read, and so it holds a special place in my shippy heart hence the smut I just wrote; Oh my!), and a fair number seemed to follow (if not there already), if not fully into Slash, into Smarm (Remember the 'Batty Bwoy' potion? Hil-AR-ious. Was that you, Jadey, or krums? Or both of you?).

However, those small few now aren't the entirety of the fandom anymore. I can't expect people now to have read my first ever XS fic (or to read it now when it starts off with 8 pages of an OC following Raimundo around as the first arc) - it was started in 2004, too, when my writing wasn't as good.

For one thing, I've learnt to spell Raimundo's name. I've also learnt, and practised, the use of commas and semicolons. I can even use who and whom correctly!

Hence the rehaul. When I've done the last arc WIP style, it'll be edited, corrected, and another-synonym-for-edit-ed, and the page breaks will vanish to give one chapter when there were nine (or at least, where there were five). Mandy will be useful (or not - she's pretty damn un-sueish for being the third or fourth OC in our baby section. Her main trait is being a distant descendant of Jack - this was planned when I liked het, obviously.) In short: it will be readable for folks who weren't at the same stage of fannishness as me at the same time as me.

Now, whether this is a relief-post about I-don't mind-if-you-read-it-not-or-later or an attempt to draw your attention to the fact that I have updated this fic with a un-cut bomb of text, that's your call to make. ^_-

I got a D on my Biology mock for module three. I am so hoping that my 'Genes and Genetics' module drags me up... B on coursework, C on 'Foundation' possible D on 'Transport'. Ugh. It'll probably all be rejected...

But finally got back to me on the affiliate with [livejournal.com profile] xiaolin_yuri.

Why did the comm come into being? Because this show, Ouran High School Host Club is practically themed on fanservice.

At a Host Club, the blokes' job's are to entertain the ladies and make them feel special - so we have random yaoi fanservice from the twins (and the gleeful reactions of the girls that they're sitting with), soulful looks and endless complements (and humour - but he doesn't know that!) from the 'King' of the Host Club and whatever it is that the other three do.

In the first episode, the thing with Haruhi and Tamaki looks slashy, but by the end of the first episode we discover that it's really not. I'm probably not the only one that was sad at first. ^_^;; I'll probably still refer to Haruhi as 'him' though.

Current up to: Episode Four of the anime as subbed by Lunar animé.

Because there are dozons of slash communities and none for yuri. So I made one. Maybe you LJ-folk'll write more femmeslash if there's a community for you to post it at? I know I would... *procedes to*

This is, of course, a thinly disgused attempt to pimp the new community [livejournal.com profile] raibicycle, the new Xiaolin Showdown comm for RaixEveryone/Anyone.

This person wants me to add her stories to the Alt. Pairings C2. Can someone who has watched season 3 and/or isn't afraid or spoilers check them out for me? Especially the second one.

There was one question I was going back and forth on, and when I picked the other answer I got Moofy.

As it was nighttime when i got back last night (duh), I continue.

Saw Ellie (she used to go to Dance with me, Sam and Kirsty, and her brother was doing the sound), the 'Science of Juggling' talk was good (and we made juggling balls in physics instead of investigating the wavelength of light XD).

Well, now it's half term! Tuesday we're going to London, so I've set up a phone-based email account (tamerterra@vodafone.net) just in case. We're staying near Piccadilly station, and Merrry is dragging us around the shops. Fuuun... The last time I was in London I was ill - full on CAN NOT SWALLOW ill - the whole time, so... yeah.

And then there's a Judo grading right before we go back to school. As in the Sunday night right before. Hope I get my blue - though I need for my Senior Licence to come through the post first.

Oh! I was going to post the link to my 'The Beginning of Something' on Chase_jack - Can't forget!

Also: Must pimp this pic! http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/24065171/ OMFG so good. JS666, Gog and Raimundo - need I say more?
Pimp (on the 'Adam and Steve / Madam and Eve' agument: http://www.livejournal.com/community/fanficrants/1231191.html?thread=36437847#t36437847 (And the full page)

It seems that Ollie is a complete blabbermouth. And so entails a convo with Bob... )

Also, I had a weird dream that they'd aired the next season of XS and changed Chase and Jack's VAs. I was all "Think of the fangirls! We want Danny Cooksley!"
Pimp: http://www.livejournal.com/community/gaystr8alliance/959998.html

And another one: http://www.livejournal.com/community/gaystr8alliance/960095.html

On the "only use english words in english fanfic summaries, don't say yaoi say slash" argument:

English randomly nicks words from other languages all the time. That's part of what it is. Every country that we've conquered visited, we took some words with us when we left. When the French were here, they left half of their volcabulary behind. So did the Romans.

Does anyone call you us for 'fangirl french' when you use the word 'pork'? Hey, 'pig meat' is the original way it was in English! No wait, 'meat' was French too.

How about most of fandom, with the German word 'angst' (Ich habe angst fur... I'm afraid of)? We (or rather, you - I've never seen it used in fandom-comtext before the internet) use it as a tag word akin to 'emo'. How come that doesn't get you blown up at?

Tagalong: OMGWTFBBQ?!?! I typed the devi link into my browser, and it tells me 'congratulations, you've won a free trial of our subscription services for 7 days.' (paraphrased). I wonder what new features this means... Well, for one there's these Header and Footers on the journal *pastes clubs etc in them*, and my devWATCH page had thumbnails (half of them wouldn't load, but still) all originised into artists.

*goes off to see what other features there are, after pasting the old text into my LJ just in case the Heatders and footers get eaten after the week is up*

That reminds me: Wuya fan club.

And I'm trying to make a site using only HTML, no WYSIWYG. Colours are fun!

Well, Lookie here
*wades through a sea of old school shoes*

So, that was the first day of 6th Form. Only one lesson got fitted in with all the admin, so I don't know yet how intense the work is going to be yet.

Apparently, according to the Headmaster, our year got the highest GCSE results that they've ever had. Our Physics teacher has been telling us that we would, lol.

And now, Squeak seems to be fixated on my necklace. Do you know how hard it is to type when there's a kitten climbing all over you, watching the keyboard and occaisionally taking swats at various stringy bits of clothes (and sleeves)?

Oh, and here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4217022.stm - horrendus.

Also, I pimp my Jackitty Spicer pic (yes, inspired in part by Squeak and her brother...): http://www.deviantart.com/view/22622642/

I also pimpify the *practises HTML by imbedding link* Wuya Fan Club at Deviantart.

Blah... Last night I drew this kinky Chase/Jack pic, but I don't want to upload it yet. I keep feeling that there's something missing, or that there should be something in that space in the bottom right-hand corner. It's all shadowy, too - about half way through drawing it I got carried away with the shading XD. And it would be after Chase' face was finished that I realised how I'd done his eyes in the wrong style... Also, I was plagued by the legs-too-short virus again. -__-;; So that had to be fixed too. T'was inspired by a journal entry of someone on my F-list XD.

EDIT: http://www.deviantart.com/view/22045456/

I put the whip-crack in the blank space, and Jack's clothes in the top corner to square it off. And the 'full scene but no detail' in the other top corner.
