Dec. 29th, 2006 01:25 pmIt occurs to me that I haven't been very forthcoming in the fiction department for quite a while. The whole last page of my LJ has been about kezboards and revision and Cambridge and 524.
So here's a Rai/Clay pre-slash scribble. Kinda. 430-ish words.
It was after a long day of training that Clay found himself being shaken awake by a pair of hands, one on each shoulder, the owner's breath warm against his chin. His eyes opened, slowly, and Raimundo's face swam into view before the dark background of the temple ceiling.
"What d'you want?" Clay asked groggily.
Raimundo licked his lips and opened his mouth to speak, just as the sound of something crashing into the outside door came to their ears. "What was that?" he exclaimed instead.
Clay sighed, and rubbed his eyes. This was the sixth night in a row that Raimundo has woken him, looking like he had a confession to make. Clay thought that he could guess what it was, and so was rather glad that each night, Raimundo had been interrupted. He'd been acting twitchy ever since he had returned from the Heylin side, grinning at inappropriate times, scratching the back of his neck and brushing off Kimiko and Omi to make small-talk in confidential whispers. The ghostly Wuya seemed to aim her gloating at the Wind Dragon in particular, and Clay for one did not want to know if Raimundo had made some deal and would betray them again. It wasn't something that one wanted to be told.
The Earth Dragon sat up and shoved Raimundo away. "So you heard something outside. Did you wake up Kimiko first?" The Cowboy crossed his fingers as he straightened his hat, hoping that Raimundo would accept the explanation. He seemed to.
"Uh, no, I'll..." he said scuttling back a bit, but then stopped and looked uneasily in the direction of the noise. "It might not be anything," he ventured. "We don't need to wake her yet - it might just be a crow or something."
Then why did you wake me, Clay thought, not saying anything for a moment. "Or, it might be Wuya, human again," he said shortly, half-suggesting the possibility of an ambush before following it with an argument. "That was far too big a bang to be a bird, 'less it was a buzzard."
Raimundo snorted. "She tried to kill Jack last time she was solid, remember? Even he isn't stupid enough to give her her powers back after that, even if he was stupid enough to let her follow him home."
"What can you do to stop a ghost following you anywhere?"
Raimundo didn't have an answer, but it didn't matter as they were at the door already. The pair listened for a moment before Raimundo reached for the door handle.
I was planning to make a longer thing out of it, but now I don't know if I'll get around to it. So, here you go! ^_^

From Muniyeka Who Is Too Lazy To Log In....
Date: 2006-12-30 09:22 am (UTC)Hehe, this 430ish words that you have written is more then what I have done in two months. Its of far better quality then what I've been producing nowadays. I weep, but I grin because some parts of this scribble make me giggly. That's good. Very good.
Re: From Muniyeka Who Is Too Lazy To Log In....
Date: 2006-12-30 10:48 am (UTC)Truth be told, I wrote this about a year ago. ^^; Ah, for the times when I seemed to have endless time on my hands...
I'd noticed you not being as prolific these days - you have such a distinct style and I've missed it. V_V
OTOH, giggly is good. ^_^
I am logged in! Huzzah!
Date: 2007-01-01 11:37 am (UTC)Yep, my productivity has been cut in half during this semester. I wanted to do well in my classes, so I kinda banned myself from writing but I ended failing two of them anyways... During my recent break two weeks ago, I've become lazy.
Its an honor to know that you enjoy my style. For some reason, I think of how you and Wiser_9 would rate my rough drafts when I write them. Strange.
What's OTOH?
Re: I am logged in! Huzzah!
Date: 2007-01-01 12:58 pm (UTC)I haven't written very much since starting A-Level Maths - it upped my '# of modules per semester' from like three to like eight. -_-;; But, of course, this term it all got too much and I started procrastinating, which is bad. And I'm all twitchy because I'm expecting a letter from Cambridge tomorrow (that decides my whole future OMG!) and haven't been able to sit still long enough to do schoolwork. -_-;;
Maybe you weren't here, but surely you were SilentSniper then? I seem to remember 'Whispers' (most memorable xs-fic ever apart from maybe Land of Muses and Eternal-Fluffy's-fic-that-no-one-remembers-the-name-of) being around quite a long time ago...
Woah. It just occurred to me that I've been trying to write Rai/Clay for a year-and-a-half-ish now. *is glad that she can use the exchange of laptops between sister and I as time-stones*
Heh. I remember reading the first tree chapters of 'Whispers' and thinking 'stop saying 'water child'. /please/ stop'. And then I was all 'woah, if she delivers stories like this, she can write in french for all I mind!' and then on my second and third re-reads the style started growing on me, and now I love it. XD
... Apparently 'thoughts' don't require capital letters. Or HTML. O_o
Re: I am logged in! Huzzah!
Date: 2007-01-04 06:46 am (UTC)Cambridge...man, I wish I could go there. No, scratch that. I want to go to an excellent art school. Pfft, fat chance, there.
Raimundo/Clay. Hm. It never did quite grow on meh.
Heh, yeah, first three chapters of 'Whispers' was less then satisfactory for me. I'd like to revise them, but I want to see my flaws years from now. Oi, isn't starvoidangel's 'Ocean's Void', the most memorable fic evah? Well, maybe it is in Chase/Omi land.
*flies off*
