I should have said something earlier - but the truth is: I am the Peter Pettigrew of fandom. I take my praise and credit when I get it, because I don't get it often. Even if I don't deserve it.

This 'giant sexy plot device' thing that I'm being credited for coining. I don't think that I coined it. I'm fairly sure that [livejournal.com profile] jadebell said it first, in the tv.com forums - and even if she didn't have 'sexy' in there, then that's just target-audiensing.

After all, I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] silvarbelle about my fic at the time. Directly after scaring her with Chomi, I'm going to say how Chase is just really a giant plot device in the fic, and that's why he's after Omi. But! Silvarbelle likes Chase. So it's adjective time - insert the word 'sexy' and there you have an explaination that doesn't insult the character.

*sigh*

Sorry folks. But I have iconed the phrase, even if I didn't coin it.

I stalk you, despite the fact that I count as a loner since I don't share any of your fandoms. I'm also powercrazy, and you can anagram I AM A FIREFLY into IF E-MAFIA, RLY.

Heh. I also remember refering to him as Mary Poppins. But, you know, the plot device phrase itself isn't mine, just... the reasoning behind it, I suppose.

The way I see it, there were two reasons he was brought into the show.

1) To turn Omi evil - the producers/writers obviously wanted to play that plot-card, and we know Omi would never trust Wuya, so a new villain had to be the one to do it. (So, Chase is a plot device.)

2) To grab the attention of potential new viewers. To do this, they decided to make him a hot-cool bishie. That is, hot enough to attract female viewers, but cool enough to appeal to the male audience. (And thus, he becomes a giant SEXY plot device.)

I think season 3 shows the shortcomings in Chase's character. Because, instead of being a villain with more general "I want to take over the world!" or "I want SGW!" motives, his ONLY motive was to turn Omi evil - reason 1 for being in the show. Once his Omi plan went down the drain, there wasn't much left to him - we're only left with reason 2 for why he's in the show, and it's not a plot-driving reason, which is why he did sod all in season 3 once Bean arrived (apart from giving a T-Rex "insight" - big whoop).

But, it does highlight Chomi very well - particularly when you add the TAT episodes into the mix. In fact, based on this, Chomi is a far more likely scenario than Chack. Chack... I dunno, Chase pushes Jack away in disgust all the time, no matter how much Jack fangirls (?) him. I know I do read Chack, but I'd never be able to write it, it's difficult for me to visualise Chase going for Jack, or for anyone else actually. But with Chomi, the inclination is most definitely on Chase's side. Just don't tell [livejournal.com profile] silvarbelle. :P

Heh, I'm never one to speculate on likelihoods of pairings (not since Teen Titans, anyway). If I do write Chase romantically, it's with the other one doing all the 'work' if it isn't Omi. And in this fic... XD

I think I did say that to [livejournal.com profile] silvarbelle - hence the need to pacify her with the 'giant sexy plot device' thing. I should really learn to find out whether people are OTPers or multishippers *before* I start on about a fic of mine.

To be honest, I find it hard to write romance full-stop. I tend to write for the general/action genre, conveying the friendship and comradery you see on the show rather than creating romance-orientated scenarios that would never actually happen in-show. I don't think there's enough friendship-only fics in any fandom - there's far more fics that exist solely to promote favoured pairings - but my strength, to be able to write XS fanfics "as seen on TV", is also my weakness. Unless a pairing is truly canon, I can't do it, because I can't visualise it. One of my limitations, I guess. The closest I got was Chase/Wuya, but that was very slight, and could be interpreted as Wuya just playing around to get Chase's attention (as she does in season 3). Nothing really came of it. At any rate, Chase certainly didn't initiate things there!

Anyway, since I'm not very good at writing pairings myself, it means that I'm pretty open to reading about most of them, as long as they're done well. Although I must admit, I'd still much rather read a well-plotted general XS fic without pairings of any kind. So hard to find.

Romantic romance - the candyfloss kind - I just can't do. I can do 'becoming closer and closer friends and then Oh Look They're Kissing!' and 'surprise shag!' but the candyfloss eludes me. Even if I could do it, though, I hate the stuff so I wouldn't. XD

I seem to remember you having some Dashi/Wuya in Land of Muses...

Ah; but that wasn't to be taken seriously. This is going back to when we were in the middle of that huge gap between In the Flesh and Days Past. Originally I thought the real Dashi had a personality similar to Master Fung, so I deliberately wrote Dashi as the opposite to what I thought he'd be, in order to parody him. But, he turned out to be just as laid-back in canon, so... that kinda backfired. Then again, I suppose it's another point to me. We seem to have a knack for correctly predicting elements of canon in our fanfics.

Sugary sweet romance puts me off as well, I think. I can put up with reading the occasional one or two, but I can't stomach more than that.
