There are other options than 'Oh, you think you might be pregnant? Better be laid up for 9 months just in case!'

There is nothing that squicks me more than that, honestly. I don't usually ID as a feminist - or if I do, it isn't a major part of my identity - but in the case of this issue add me to the army.

I'm not saying that every single character who gets preggers in fanfic should abort (heck, often the entire point is to produce a Mary Sue kid for the pairing to look after), but would it kill the fanthings to have their characters consider anything else?

And you know what's really ironic? The line that provoked this rant was preceded by Kimiko telling Omi off for thinking that childbirth out of wedlock was 'disrespectful'.

“yeah omi it WAS disrespectful, about 100 years ago” shouted kimiko.

And the quote that sparked the rant:

“kimiko is there something you’d like to tell me?” said master fung. “all she has to say is that she’s pregnant” said omi as he dodged kimiko as she tried to cover omi’s mouth again.
“then kimiko shall stay here until she has the baby” said master fung who looked really annoyed.

I really hope that the fanthing is character-bashing, though that isn't much better. Though if she was (yes, the fanthing is a 'she'), then Kimiko (or rather, her placid alter-ego 'kimiko') would blow up at Master Fung.

*sob* All I wanted was to find some rare JackxJesse fic. Even if it was hidden in something with no capital letters and liberal SPAG abuse!
