Over the hols, I've been cultivating an AU-bubble to keep myself amused, where all my AU Dark Lord Defeaters (a Harry Black (raised by Regulus and Narcissa Black), a Slytherin Harry Potter whose mother is still alive, and a Tom Riddle who began to find the war rather tiresome) are dragged into the canon Potterverse and told that they can't go home until they help the Order win (shades of Manipulative!Dumbledore). Well, Tom took a look at the Daily Prophet yesterday, and began to rant rather spectacularly...
The plotbunny takes backstory from McTabby's 'Two Worlds Apart' (Which you should read, by the way, along with 'Two Worlds and In Between'), which has 'Dodo' Umbridge a Slytherin in Tom's year. She wants a 'fluffy kneazle kitten' - something that doesn't actually exist - and Tom is very relieved when she stops bothering him. XD
My AU Tom-of-the-Diary refers to this snapshot of Umbridge in his rant about the Muggleborn Register (or whatever it was called), and drops some more backstory about the Umbridge he knew at school:
She was Prefect along with him.
She tried to get into his 'inner circle' of the time, but he kicked her out after three days for, basically, trying to start up the same Blood Status and Muggleborn Register stuff that is implemented in DH. After all - legally, 'Tom Marvolo Riddle' is a muggleborn. His mother was a witch, but he can't prove it. XD
