Wouldn't it be fun if, with prequels and sequels, if someone took an end and wrote a fanfic beginning, then someone else came along after and fanficked an end for that new beginning? Do you think that that's how stories really grow?
It's like a zig-zag-slide, and to take an XS example:
1. The cartoon exists.
2. Avi17 writes 'The Beginning of the End', a prequel.
3. Someone else, who has never watched XS, comes across TBotE and decides 'OMG, this is awesome!' and fanfics a sequel.
Their 'sequel' is unlikely to be anything like XS, but it'll have some of the same characters, and some OCs - some added by avi17, some added by the second fanfic author - and maybe some of the same themes, possibly. More likely, there'll be completely different themes, depending on what bits the respective authors think is most important.
Interesting.

Also, OMG, I wrote 3500 words on one fic today - 3000 words of Pettigrew!PoV, and 500 of Petunia!PoV. That's more that I wrote even on my best day the last time I did NaNo. O_o
It's basically an AU where instead of ratting out the Potters right away, Pettigrew tells Voldy that Sirius Black is the Secret Keeper. Voldy goes off to the Longbottoms' first (because really, if you've got two possible will-grow-up-and-kill-yous out there, you're going to bump off the undefended one first and send Bellatrix to get the info on the other one in the meantime).
So we have the scene set with Sirius incapacitated and Neville as The Boy Who Lived, but Harry ends up at the Dursleys' anyway because his mum and dad had a row and now Lily is in the Guest Bedroom at #4 Privet Drive, and Pettigrew is all "Win!" until Snape decides to blackmail him, and Remus Lupin is all "Oh no, James and Sirius! Wait, if Sirius was attacked before YKW fell, and James was after YKW fell, and I know it wasn't me or Peter... *gasp* James was the traitor! *tell Albus*"
...Wait, I didn't say about the James thing. Basically, he gets Bella-fied instead of the Longbottoms, because someone had to. And Harry isn't allowed to have a happy family.
So Harry grows up, and Pettigrew stays free, and Snape maintains a friendship of sorts with Lily, and Dudley ends up showing magic (having a magical aunt and cousin in the house instead of a magic-squashy father), and before we know it ten years have passed and it's time for the Obligatory Train Scene!
Here I have Harry meeting Ron all the same, but having Theo Nott and Sophy Roper barge in (He was trying to avoid Crabbe, and would have sat in with Daphne Greengrass but she was already in with Neville Longbottom, y'know, The Boy Who Lived, which, er, might be bad news. You remember who Nott's father was? Right.) before any friendship can really be started and starts nattering about houses. Theo turns out to be a very bad foil for Ron, and Harry ends up with a more favourable impression of Slytherin than Gryffindor come Sorting.

Actually, as an Addendum, does anyone recall who the Prefects in Ginny's year were? Or, y'know, any characters in Ginny's year apart from her and Luna?
